Dr Ho Boon Tiong, Assistant Education Secretary of the Methodist Church in Singapore shared with us his thoughts on how we can be a Reflective Educator. Reflection is not a luxury; but a necessity. Dr Ho taught us the 4 modes of reflection: Reflection-to-action; Reflection-in-action; Reflection-on-action; & Reflection-for-action. In reflection, he challenged everyone, “when was the last time we intentionally did something for the first time?”
5 FEB 2022 – LEADERSHIP BEGINS WITH SELF: LEADING OUT OF WHO YOU ARE
Ms Cara Lee, Deputy Director of Anglican Preschool Services (APS) shared with us her thoughts on leadership through a reflection of her personal journey in the EC industry. What we think, say or do, reflects how we lead OURSELVES; how we lead ourselves is a reflection of our IDENTITY; & WHAT we anchor our identity on makes the difference in our lives. Cara gave valuable advice on the importance of Character, Care, Communication & Courage; “human BEING” vs “human DOING”; & Intention vs Impact.
1 JAN 2022 –CHRISTIAN PRESCHOOL LANDSCAPE & THE ROAD AHEAD
Mr Lim Ee Tuo, Executive Director of Presbyterian Preschool Services shared about the realities of the preschool landscape as well as the journey ahead for Christian preschool education. In moving ahead, Ee Tuo encouraged all that we must make every effort to work together as God’s people as it is a strong testimony about God’s love; we must teach children the right Godly values; & we must do good no matter what & consider others as more important than ourselves.
4 DEC 2021 - SCISSORS, PAPER, STONE: TOOLS TO HELP TEACHERS BECOME BETTER
Ms Alicia Yah, Executive Principal, Anglican Preschool Services shared the analogy of the tools that God provides in our hands; a pair of scissors to cut & trim; a piece of paper as a blank canvas for God to use; and a stone, symbolising the Rock which is our Faith. She encouraged all working in the sector to fill our cup with God’s Love, Wisdom & Grace to overflow into the “cup” of others. We are all “Better Together”. How full is your cup for your children and others?
6 NOV 2021 - MY GOD-MOMENTS IN MY EARLY CHILDHOOD LEADERSHIP JOURNEY
Ms Elsie Tan, Principal, Living Sanctuary Kindergarten & Childcare shared her “God moulding moments” to encourage and her inspired her audience with honest and real experience of her journey in the early childhood industry. She shared her joy and her pain. She shared on the importance of praying with the right attitude; praying but being proactive; praying trusting for God to deliver in His timing. In her low moments, she “majored on the major” and prayed.
2 OCT 2021 - AGENTS OF LOVE & KINDNESS
Dr William Wan, General Secretary of the Singapore Kindness Movement, share and inspired the audience with the “aged old truth’ from God’s Word. Preschool teachers are in a special place; placed by God to serve the community and given the opportunity to be His Agent of Love and Kindness. Preschool teachers are not just teachers, but builders of character, building the next generation of citizens; who will honour God, love their neighbors and be Agents of Love and Kindness.
