A GRAND CELEBRATION: THE EXPLORERS PASSING OUT PARADE 2024
20 November 2024 was a day to remember – an extraordinary celebration of our amazing Explorers! With over 100 gathered, including children, parents, guests, and stakeholders, this milestone event recognised their incredible achievements, remarkable growth, and the countless unforgettable memories they’ve created during their Explorers journey. Each child has dedicated their heart and effort into this adventure, and it was a joy to celebrate their success alongside proud families, teachers, and friends.
The Explorers, a preschool version of The Boys’ Brigade in Singapore and The Girls’ Brigade Singapore, focuses on nurturing character, social-emotional growth, and community spirit while instilling God’s Truth and Love. Coordinated by Kingdomgarten Preschool Services and in partnership with Focus on the Family Singapore, the programme empowers 5-6-year-olds with values to carry into their future. Through engaging, age-appropriate activities, the programme helps children grow in confidence, empathy, and an understanding of their roles in their families and communities, providing a foundation that supports lifelong growth.
This year’s Passing Out Parade at Singapore Life Church was especially significant as the K2 Explorers received their final badge – “Hero in Me.” Representing a journey of growth and resilience, this badge symbolises the perseverance, camaraderie, and courage they’ve developed through challenges and tasks.
Sharing by Guest-of-Honour
Rev. Dr. Christopher Chia, Synod Moderator of The Presbyterian Church in Singapore, shared an inspiring message about being a beacon of light to others, emphasising that even the smallest gestures can leave a lasting impact. His words served as a poignant reminder of the values instilled through the Explorers programme.
The Explorers Speak
Three brave Explorers stepped up to share their stories, each reflecting on their unique journeys:
Alessa from Little Olive Tree (Hougang) recounted her gratitude-filled adventure, emphasising how her teacher, Miss Amelie, made every lesson both fun and meaningful. Through activities like playing Daddy Dog in the Doggie Family, Alessa learned the importance of appreciation and gratitude. The programme helped her grow kinder, more helpful, and confident at home, teaching her teamwork, the joy of helping others, and the value of curiosity. She expressed heartfelt thanks to her teachers, family, and fellow Explorers, cherishing the friendships and lessons she’ll carry into Primary school.
Asher and Zacharias from Little Olive Tree (Pasir Ris 51) reminisced about the thrill of learning and the engaging activities they enjoyed as Explorers. Highlights included teamwork games in Action Island and learning listening skills and discipline while marching as a group. They fondly remembered earning badges for their Explorer vests and using materials from their Explorers Activity Kit to explore values like obedience, appreciation, and care. Both boys are eager to apply these lessons as they step into Primary school, expressing gratitude for the teachers and helpers who made their journey so meaningful.
A Bright Future Ahead
As the Explorers prepare to embark on their new adventure, they leave behind a legacy of growth, courage, and faith. The Passing Out Parade was a testament to the power of nurturing young hearts and minds, preparing them to shine brightly in the world.
Congratulations to the graduands of Explorers of 2024 – you are truly heroes in the making!
